5 Common Mistakes to Avoid with your AstroCartography!
Are you looking at working with your AstroCartography? First off, you’ll want to make sure you avoid falling into these common mistakes and pit-falls that people often make!
Here’s how to avoid the most common AstroCartography mistakes so that you can work with your AstroMap for the best results. Let’s get started!
Btw if you are new here – and I hate that I have to say this now – but please know that this is an AI input-free zone. I do not use AI to write my articles, these words are all poured from my own heart and lived experience in working with AstroCartography <3.
The Most Common AstroCartography Pitfalls to Avoid
AstroCartography is the most popular form of Locational Astrology and is such a wonderful astrological tool to work with if you are considering relocating, travelling – or if, just like me – you love maps!
But with its recent rise in popularity, there are some things to know BEFORE you make all important life decisions based on your own personal AstroMap.
Mistake #1 – Treating your AstroCartography as Separate from your Natal Chart
Somehow, when looking at an AstroCartography map, one of the biggest mistakes people make is forgetting that it is not separate from your actual birth chart.
The AstroCartography might look nothing like your birth chart – but it actually is the same. The AstroMaps are simply a different way to view your birth chart – seeing your stars and natal planets spread over a map of the world rather than the traditional wheel we have become so familiar with in Western Astrology.
In fact, viewing your birth chart spread over a map of the world helps us tap into its astronomical power in more connectedness – but that’s another story for now.
So why does it matter if AstroCartography is separate from your birth chart or not?
Well, it all comes down to the fact that not only does everyone have their AstroCartography lines in different places, everyone’s AstroCartography lines are also going to express differently.
For example, my Mars lines will feel very different than your Mars lines.
Why? Because my personal natal Mars in Taurus is conjunct my Sun, in the 3rd house. I’m guessing your Mars is not also in Taurus conjunct the Sun (and even if it was there’d almost certainly be different aspects from other planets to your natal Mars compared to mine).
We all experience our AstroCartography through the lens of our natal chart.
I love AstroCartography because it roots our Astrology down into the earth. We literally get to bring our stars down to the ground. But when we see AstroCartography as separate from our birth chart, we un-root ourselves again.

Mistake #2 – Using Overly Generic and Stereotypical Line Descriptions
Following on from my point above – if my Mars Lines are going to express in a different way to yours when I pay them a visit, we need to be careful with the standardised definitions of Mars that it can be so easy to jump to.
A friend of mine went to a Mars line in her AstroCartography and ran a marathon with very little preparation.
I have held space for clients who experienced their family falling apart and separating on Mars AstroLocality lines.
Personally, I have never felt particularly called to go to my Mars AstroCartography lines – and on the occasions that I have, have felt a lot of tension, frustration and anger brewing beneath the surface that wanted to erupt out of me.
These are all very Martian expressions, but they are each very different.
Which brings us back to point 1 – how your Mars line might feel for you needs to be understood through connecting back to your natal chart as a whole, and how your Mars is placed there.

Mistake #3 – Thinking all your “Good Lines” are Over Water
I’ve heard this said a lot.
And, given that our earth is mostly covered by Ocean, yes chances are you will have many AstroCartography lines that go through the ocean – and unless you love cruising, there won’t be much opportunity for you to visit those places in your physical body at least.
But there are several problems with this belief.
One is about “Good Lines”. I’ll come back to that in point #5.
The other is that there are always alternatives, where we can find similar energies to the ones that go through the middle of said-ocean.
If your Venus DC line (the so-called “Honeymoon line” in AstroCartography as labelled by Jim Lewis) goes through the middle of the Pacific Ocean, it doesn’t mean that there’s nowhere in the world supportive for you in finding love. (Or that you won’t have a honeymoon!).
It just means that we look at other placements including different AstroCartography lines that are connected to relationship in your chart, to see where they fall that may be somewhat more accessible.
Or. Maybe go on that cruise for your honeymoon (Just kidding! ;)).
Mistake #4 – Not looking at ‘Parans’ or Crossing Lines in AstroCartography
At first glance, it’s easy to look at your AstroCartography map and assume that where there are no lines going through, there’s nothing there for you.
Which is not true.
Firstly, AstroCartography lines can be felt for quite some distance – up to 300 miles – although of course, the closer you are to a line, the stronger the effect (which side you are of the line also impacts things).
But secondly, even if you’re not close to an AstroCartography line, the system also works with what is called a ‘Parans’ or Crossing energies. These look at locations where two lines cross, and where there is no major AstroCartogrpahy line, these energies will carry over to other regions at the same latitude.
This follows the logic that other locations at the same latitude will roll through the crossing energy later in the day as the earth turns.
I have personally experienced these crossing energies to be significant, and have seen this for my clients too – so don’t overlook them! Just because there’s no ‘line’ going through a place doesn’t mean there’s no energy there for you.
Mistake #5 – Stop looking for the “perfect line”
Ah… this last one is my favourite. When I first discovered AstroCartography many years ago, (which was before I became a serious student of Astrology) I tried to figure out my map by myself – but in the end gave in and got a reading from a beautiful astrologer who became one of my mentors.
I had high hopes. In my mind, she was going to tell me the perfect place to live – ideally down to the town and street name – and everything would fall into place.
But that, my friends, is not how life works, and it’s certainly not how AstroCartography works either.
We live in a world that is constantly trying to persuade us that we need the things outside of ourselves to succeed. Whether it’s the next beautiful dress to look good, the secret insider hack to becoming famous on instagram (LOL), or the key to manifesting limitless abundance…
… The messaging is always the same, that there is some secret outside of us we just need to know and everything will then be easy.
Ironically, one of the greatest gifts that AstroCartography has given me is the realisation that we are always in the right place.
We did not make a mistake, the Universe did not loose our address, and somehow send us to a place in the world where it’s game over…
Can you imagine trying to fulfil the full potential of your natal chart with only your Sun?
Or with only your Mars?
It’s the same with AstroCartography.
Even the most supportive, beneficial AstroCartography line will not bring us everything.
Yes, there are easier energies and more difficult lines to end up on — but it is through recognising that they all have a part to play, that we realise…
We are already home.
And so, dear reader… if you have made it through to the end, first of all – thank you. And, I’d like you to know that more and more of us are being called to work with AstroCartography right now to align and ground our energies into the earth, to find our unique places in the world where we can truly embody our soul purpose…
